Pranav Wagh, one of our undergraduate students, and his teammate Dylan Shukla (also from UNC-Chapel Hill) won ‘Best Healthcare Hack’ and the MATLAB sponsor prize at HackPrinceton 2024 on March 29th – 31st. His project, Immersive Firefighter Performance Review, allows firefighters and their supervisors to have an in-depth look at the fire response and associated data. The reviewer puts on a VR headset and selects information-rich graphs, alerting them to key moments in the fire response. Then they select these points in time and are teleported to view the actions of the firefighters during this time. The firefighter’s exact actions and the physical environment are captured using 3D reconstruction technology (SLAM) and various sensors aboard the firefighters’ suits. This project allows firefighters to improve their response, thus saving more lives.
